Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is a 24-hour referral and emergency hospital located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The staff includes specialists in internal medicine, surgery, radiology, emergency/critical care, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. The emergency service is staffed by approximately 10 experienced, internship-trained clinicians and the technicians are highly trained in emergency and critical care nursing. The emergency/critical care residency program currently has three residents, and there is a well-established internship program with six interns per year.

Health Insurance
Ocean State Veterinary Specialists will pay 100% of the monthly premium of an individual plan for eligible employees. The remaining premium, if applicable, will be deducted before taxes through a payroll deduction. Full time employees who are enrolled in the plan are entitled to deductible reimbursement up to $1,500 per year.

Dental Insurance
We offer high-quality dental insurance through Delta Dental.

Cafeteria 125 Plan
OSVS has a Cafeteria 125 plan which allows employee health and dental deductions to be taken out on a pre-taxed basis. This assists the employees with reducing their tax liability.

Life Insurance
All employees regularly scheduled between 36-40 hours a week will receive a hospital paid $5,000 life insurance policy which also includes $5,000 for accidental death and dismemberment.

Flexible Spending Accounts
A Flexible Spending Account is a pretax benefit that allows eligible employees the ability to set aside a specific pretax dollar amount to pay for out-of-pocket medical/dental and dependent care expenses resulting in lower taxes for the employee.

Accidental and Short Term Disability Insurance
Employees working 30 hours or more are eligible to buy supplemental benefits consisting of accident or short term disability. This is an additional way to protect your income during the course of your employment. Both plans are portable should you leave your employment.

401k
OSVS offers a 401K plan to all employees following one year of full-time employment. Part time employees working at least 1000 hours in a calendar year are also eligible after one year of employment. OSVS will match employee contributions up to 4%.

Gym Membership
Employees who are scheduled to work at least three shifts per week are eligible to sign up for a discounted membership to Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center in East Greenwich, RI.

Continuing Education
Both formal and “on the job” continuing education is a regular part of OSVS. An annual continuing education allowance is granted to employees who are certified veterinary technicians. OSVS will pay for non-certified veterinary technician employees to take the VTNE one time.

Uniform Allowance
OSVS provides a uniform allowance for all support staff.

Rabies Vaccination Assistance Program
OSVS requires all staff to be vaccinated against rabies and offers payment assistance for non-vaccinated employees.

Generous Pet Discount Policy

Work/Life Balance
At OSVS, we understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance, and having tenured employees is very important to us. Full time employees are granted two weeks of vacation during their first 5 years of employment. Employees can start using vacation time 90 days after being hired.

Once an employee has been with OSVS for five years, they are granted a third week of vacation. After ten years, a fourth week will be earned. Paid time off is also granted for part time employees, although it is accrued at a different rate. OSVS also offers paid sick time and holiday pay.

OSVS is a 24,000 sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally-respected internship and residency program, and specialists in emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, radiology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, and avian/exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, and MRI.

Training programs are in place to allow technicians to advance into highly skilled positions in the ICU, emergency, and the specialties depending on their interests. These positions require some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Internship-trained emergency doctors wanted at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS), a large and busy 24 hour emergency and specialty referral center located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The hospital is a 24,000 sq. ft, with a recently constructed specialty center. We offer referral and emergency services to the RI, eastern CT, and southern MA areas. There is no general practice associated with the hospital. Equipment includes digital radiography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, laparoscopy, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, fluoroscopy, and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. The staff includes specialists in internal medicine, surgery, radiology, emergency/critical care, cardiology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology and avian/exotics, as well as a large group of experienced emergency clinicians. The hospital places a premium on continuing education. Daily case rounds provide an opportunity for continuous learning. We have in-house education for doctors and technicians, and host referring veterinarians for continuing education forums several times a year. We have a successful internship in place as well as an emergency/critical care residency, which helps to promote a didactic atmosphere and gives the emergency clinicians and specialists ample opportunity to teach others. The support staff is highly trained and enthusiastic about continuing education as well. The technicians working in the intensive care unit are capable of managing most nursing cases, including those on mechanical ventilation, peritoneal dialysis, continuous thoracic drainage, etc. This position offers emergency clinicians a unique opportunity to work in a well-equipped, state-of-the-art facility, side-by-side with a large group of specialists. The emergency doctors do not just work evenings and weekends, they work many weekday inpatient shifts as well, giving them the opportunity to manage critical care patients and benefit from the referral hospital environment. The desire to continue learning and to participate in the teaching of interns and student externs is very important, and a good sense of humor is essential! The opportunity to split time between the RI hospital and our satellite facility in Massachusetts is also available. The clinics are only 20 minutes apart. The caseload at OSVS is high, and the cases challenging. This is a tremendous environment to continue learning and growing but requires someone with a strong ER foundation (from a quality internship).
