Staff & Scheduling
The avian and exotics department is staffed four days per week. The department
Is composed of one full time veterinarian board certified in Avian Medicine and
Surgery as well as technicians who are completely dedicated to the care and
treatment of non-traditional pets. We integrate the most up to date clinical
information with board certified small animal veterinary specialists to provide the
ultimate care for the patients.
Medical Care
Pets will receive the finest in consultation assistance by all Ocean State
Veterinary Hospital Staff. Nurses, technicians and trainees may assist the
veterinarian during the visit. These individuals have special training and skills that
make them an important part of our patient care team.
Department wards and treatment rooms are specially designed to meet the needs
of birds, small mammals and reptiles. Hospitalized patients will be monitored 24
hours per day and, when necessary, will be placed in intensive care. The small
mammals are kept in a quiet area to minimize stress induced by barking dogs or
vocal cats. The reptiles and birds have separate cage banks within the exotics
ward in order to provide the necessary microenvironment they require.
Oncology
With the availability of our highly skilled oncology department we welcome client
referrals who are interested in exploring available options for their pet. This is a
new and exciting era for exotic pets and oncology alike and we will do everything
we can to prolong and preserve quality of life for our patients.
