medicine, surgery, radiology, emergency/critical care, oncology, ophthalmology and
avian/exotics. The emergency service is staffed by approximately ten experienced,
internship-trained clinicians and the technicians are highly trained in emergency and
critical care nursing.  The emergency/critical care residency program currently has three
residents, and there is a well-established internship program with six interns per year.

Our state of the art facility is approximately 17,000 square feet and includes a large
ICU, treatment area, two surgery suites, 11 exam rooms, blood bank, a dedicated
oncology/dermatology /ophthalmology center and ample office space.  Specialized
equipment includes digital endoscopy and laparoscopy, ultrasound, digital radiography,

available 6 days a week. The ICU is equipped with a mechanical ventilator, telemetric
EKG, defibrillator, multiparameter monitors, i-stat analyzer, oxygen cages, and much
more. Our comprehensive in-house laboratory equipment includes multiple CBC and
chemistry analyzers, and a coagulation analyzer.

OSVS places a premium on teaching and continuing education.  Daily “walk-through”
rounds provide an opportunity for continuous learning. We have in-house education
for doctors and technicians, and host referring veterinarians for continuing education
forums several times a year. Our internship and residency program help to promote a
didactic atmosphere and gives the emergency clinicians and specialists ample
opportunity to teach others.

The support staff is highly trained and enthusiastic about continuing education as well.
The technicians working in the intensive care unit are capable of managing most nursing
cases, including those on mechanical ventilation, peritoneal dialysis, continuous thoracic
drainage, etc.

All candidates for these positions must have a strong work ethic, good sense of humor
and desire to both teach and continue learning.
