Lea Sheldahl, DVM

Emergency Medicine

A native of Oregon, Dr. Sheldahl grew up in the Portland area and attended college at the
University of Oregon, where she majored in biology.  She stayed to pursue a Master’s
Degree in animal behavior.  After finishing her Master’s she took some time to travel, and
ultimately settled in Rhode Island.

Dr. Sheldahl decided to pursue veterinary medicine after her own dog, Tucker, lost a long
battle with recurrent pneumonia.  She graduated from Tufts Veterinary School in 2008
Where she received the Jeff Proulx Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in
Veterinary studies. She completed her internship at the New England Animal Medical Center
before starting as an emergency doctor at OSVS in August 2009.

Lea’s hobbies include photography, trying to tire out her Border Collie mix, Stella, and
Just about anything outdoors (especially backpacking).
Sam Lester, DVM

Emergency Medicine

Dr. Lester is originally from Massachusetts but his family relocated to Westerly, Rhode
Island many years ago.  He graduated from Connecticut College in New London with a
degree in zoology in 2002.  Dr. Lester graduated from Tufts veterinary school in Grafton
Massachusetts in 2008 and went on to complete an internship here at OSVS.  He was
then coerced into accepting a position as an emergency clinician with us and continues
to work at perfecting his talents.

Away from work, Dr. Lester spends his time with his family, friends and pets.  He enjoys
fishing expeditions and regaling his co-workers with his tales of the sea.
Ann Klocke, DVM

Emergency Medicine

Dr. Klocke is originally from the Philadelphia area. She received her undergraduate
degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University before attending the University of
Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating she pursued an internship
at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital, located just outside Boston. She has a special
interest in internal medicine and developing her skills in emergency surgery.  In the
future, she would like to find time to pursue a certification in acupuncture. Dr. Klocke
divides her time between OSVS and BSVES.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Thomas, and her Australian
Cattle Dog mix, Pandora, both of whom are rescued pets.  She also enjoys trying new
recipes, attending live music, biking, hiking and exploring Providence and the surrounding
area.
Fred Levy, DVM

Emergency Medicine

Dr. Levy hails from suburban New York City and spent eight wonderful years in Ithaca
attending Cornell University and then the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. He
graduated in 1998 and then completed a general internship at Angell Memorial Animal
Hospital in Boston.  He practiced emergency medicine in Florida for six years before
relocating to New England with his wife, who is also a veterinarian!

On those days when he is not at work, Dr. Levy enjoys the Pittsburgh Steelers, poker,
spending time with his wife Margee, young daughters Sarah and Katy (and his dogs),
and anything with ketchup (or any condiment, for that matter).
Kristi Thomas, DVM

Emergency Medicine

Hailing originally from the shores of Lake Michigan, Dr. Thomas attended veterinary
School at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, after completing
Her bachelor's degree there in Zoology.  She then went on to complete a small animal
emergency and surgery rotating internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital just
Outside of Boston, MA.  Dr. Thomas' primary professional interest is in small animal
emergency and critical care medicine, but she enjoys emergency surgery and treating
pocket pets as well.

Dr. Thomas enjoys spending her free time with her many pets (a horse, a dog, 2 cats,
2 rabbits and a guinea pig- almost all rescued animals) and also enjoys the outdoors,
reading, gardening, cooking, and travelling.  She joined the staff at OSVS and BSVES
in August 2008.
